Firewise Tips and Story Ideas:
As you report wildland fire issues in your news coverage, residents and communities may wonder what they can do to reduce their wildfire vulnerability. Following are a few story ideas to consider. Contact the Firewise Media Relations Team for interviews and information.
• When you see a house still standing while others around it have burned, ask the question: "Why?" The answer may likely be fire-resistent roof and construction, reduced vegetation around the home, or other Firewise practices. For example, if the trees around a burned home are still standing and green, then the home was more combustible than the vegetation. • Provide Tips for homeowners in your coverage and/or Web site.
• Include Daily Firewise Tip in weather coverage.
• Interview national Firewise Communities staff or state liaisons.
• Show area residents performing Firewise work (landscaping, clearing brush, etc.) around their homes.
