Firewise Tips and Story Ideas:
As you report wildland fire issues in your news coverage, residents
and communities may wonder what they can do to reduce their wildfire
vulnerability. Following are a few story ideas to consider. Contact the NFPA's Public Affairs staff for interviews and information.
- When you see a house still standing while others around it have burned, ask the question: "Why?" The answer may likely be fire-resistant roof and construction, reduced vegetation around the home, or other Firewise practices. For example, if the trees around a burned home are still standing and green, then the home was more combustible than the vegetation. For more sample questions to consider, (

- Include Daily Firewise Tip in weather coverage.
- Interview national Firewise Communities staff or state liaisons.
