Pine Ridge

Pine RidgeThe Pine Ridge community lies between Mena and Oden on Highway 88 in the northwestern corner of Montgomery County. This community has one of the oldest original buildings that relates to a radio program. The Jot "Em Down Store that was made famous by the Lum and Abner radio program in the mid-1930's is now the Jot 'Em Down Store Museum. A person can shop for a wide variety of souvenirs while observing the way it used to be at the time the radio program was being broadcast. The museum is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Pine Ridge is comprised of cattle and chicken farmers who live along the nearby Ouachita River.

Pine RidgePine Ridge contains several residential properties that lie near USDA-Forest Service land. When those homeowners heard about the Firewise program in Montgomery County, they immediately became active in it.

Pine Ridge has a very active fire department with medical first responders. Fire department volunteers completed Firewise assessments throughout the district. When the assessments were reviewed, Pine Ridge citizens determined that specific homes would be targeted for fuel mitigation. The fire department has committed to providing technical assistance, as required.
