Emigration Canyon

Emigration Canyon, UTEmigration Canyon lies in the northeastern portion of Salt Lake County, Utah. Approximately 4,800 of the 12,000 acres in Emigration Canyon Township are privately owned. The canyon’s various residents and homeowner associations are organized as the Emigration Canyon Community Council.

The Canyon has formed a Fire Committee that includes residents in the Canyon as well as representatives from the county, city, state and federal fire agencies, the township planning board, the local water board, and the county planning office. The Committee, guided by a strategic planner, created a Firewise plan based on the results of an all-day strategic planning session.

Emigration Canyon, UTThe Canyon held its first Fire Day on June 22, 2002. This fire awareness builder featured federal, state, city and county fire agency personnel who demonstrated their equipment, booths from building supply companies and local nurseries, and local agency personnel who answered questions specific to the Emigration Canyon wildfire issue.

The Committee intends to support an annual Fire Day, specific fuel reduction activities, and the purchase of GIS materials and consultants.
